Bring on the Dancing Girls!

We went out on Saturday night to a fundraiser at the local resort around the corner. It was hosted by one of the dance groups on island who were trying to send their professional dance troupe to Apia. The dancers are going to perform at an opening of a hotel and so they set up an evening of dance entertainment.

A large group of ex-pat women go to a Monday night dance class where they learn a few polynesian dances (not just Samoan dance), have fun and apparently it's very good exercise too. I haven't joined myself because I'm terribly unco-ordinated and rather shy. So anyway, the Monday night dance group performed on Saturday and so did a smaller group of younger girls (4 - 10 years). There were 3 different groups in all and they all showcased a variety of polynesian dance (with some interesting western influences which I'll nickname the lasso). It was all good fun and all their hard work paid off with polished performances.

Speaking of dancing girls, the other day my brother sent me a link to this oldie pop song by the Nolan sisters. The Nolan sisters were the Pussy Cat Dolls of the early 70's (apart from the spandex tights though they were very tame), they kind of modeled themselves on that Diana look, very English. Oh the memories, if you're over 30 something and listened to bad pop hits then you'll know.
