Same Ol' Same Ol' Wahoo
It’s been only 2 months and we are settling into a routine - school/work- home- eat- sleep etc. The feeling of Groundhog Day is amplified by having a radio station (KHJ 93.1) that plays the same songs day after day, honestly I can bet you a lot of money that you will hear KT Tunstall, Corrine Bailey Rae and Nickleback tomorrow. The DJs are good on this station but the music, excremental. The other FM station 92.1 play a good variety you’ll hear, Island music, Polish polka songs, old songs, new songs sung in English and Samoan. Its song selection is random to say the least but the DJ tries to sound like Wolf man Jack (in Samoan and English!) it’s irritating.
Our TV is supposedly cable, the news channels (CNN, BBC CNBC) and the American Forces channel are live but the rest of the cable channels are run from tapes sent here from Hawaii every 2 weeks. This week we have new tapes of shows from 2 weeks ago. These tapes sometimes get out of sync and the other week there was pornography on at 8pm in the evening! So although we get cable and have over 30 channels there’s nothing to see.
On Sunday after church we often eat out with our friends the Murphy’s, this past week we went to Pizza Hut, they have an outdoor playground which the kids can play on and the pizzas are good. However, this last Sunday Philip Murphy was seated up against the window when he felt something fall on his head. He looked on the floor and saw a black raisin like thing and thought it was gecko poo (yucky but not uncommon in these parts) when he looked up to check out what it was he saw a large mouse/maybe rat hiding up in the curtain rail, its tail was hanging down below the pelmet. He went to inform the staff of the large mouse/rat that pooed on to his head and the staffer’s reply was “How big was it?” They shook the curtain rail and the mouse/rat scooted around the restaurant but wasn’t caught - it was last seen heading next door to KFC.
Lucky Noah is showing some of the spoils of his winning raffle ticket (preschool fundraiser), tins of Wahoo (aka Pacific Kingfish, Oahu fish) donated from the local cannery. Noah won a prize earlier this year at the Sandringham Kindergarten raffle - maybe he should try his luck at Lotto.
